FEATURED FILM

Scene from Kitty - Rafaela in a dramatic moment

Kitty

Lead Role - Baby Girl

Kitty

Lead Role - Baby Girl

In this short, I play Baby Girl, a transgender sex worker and drug dealer. She takes this Mormon kid named AJ under her wing as they try to find their place the streets together. Baby Girl is an amalgamation of all the trans women that inspired the director and me. Trans stories are not only important because of the voices they lift up, but also they can bring to light stories which are seldom seen or heard of in mainstream content environments.

This short film shows the difficulty of LGBTQ+ lives in Atlanta today, despite this, the film still finds ways to feature trans joy, queer anger, and community solidarity. A powerful image.

In terms of technical efforts, I had to learn an Atlanta accent for the role within a week. I also translated and performed the Spanish dub and sub of the short film.

Anita Dashiell-Sparks

Language

English

A groundbreaking rock musical that follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side. As Angel, I embodied the compassion and love in the show, making her death in the second act that much more heartbreaking. Angel had always been my dream role since I was a kid, so it was an honor to have the opportunity to wrap my teeth around this role. This role was a tribute to my inner child.
